Rethinking advocacy in our society?
At Cívica, we are celebrating our anniversary this month, and with a series of articles, we want to generate reflections for our readers regarding situations that happen in our daily lives and need to be addressed and reflected upon slowly.
Part of our work, our mission, vision, but above all, our principles, always involves innovating and constantly rethinking our way of coexisting as a society, making public policies, and providing services. That is why, in the face of such a changing and adverse political and global scenario, it is always valid and responsible of those of us who dedicate ourselves to public affairs to rethink our way of forming public policies, public relations, and politics as a profession in general.
Today, there are global trends that want to lead us to an absolutely individualistic, lonely society, oblivious to any social or collective problem, abandoning any idea of how the individual is and exists in society, even proposing an absolutely selfish conceptualization of our humanity. On the contrary, today more than ever in the face of major problems such as the climate emergency, citizen security or public health, we require a response from society as a whole. That is why it is more necessary than ever to consider that these problems will be addressed and solved only if as a society we visualize and work together, carrying out intelligence and collective efforts in favor of a common well-being.
From our perspective, this visualization of our society impacts and must be the transverse axis not only in the generation of public policies but also in how the different actors in society relate to each other: politicians, business owners, civil society, etc. For this reason, we work from a participatory and collaborative perspective in cooperation schemes between different organizations, always in search of aspects of common interest, programmatic agendas, common problems and solutions.
In a global reality, where international cooperation has been severely affected by the multiple wars we are going through, budget cuts, and the elimination of cooperation and humanitarian aid programs, it is more important than ever to rethink, ask ourselves, and innovate in the way we relate to different actors in society and build from what unites us in our various missions, whether from the private, public sector or civil society organizations.
At Cívica, we focus on this, building and creating capacities for different actors (foundations, associations, civil society, companies, activists) around their advocacy plans and strategies, their relations with society as a whole, with a basic pillar based on transparency and collectivity as a solution to the problems and challenges faced by organizations and companies, foundations and society as a whole.
We understand and promote these processes with strategy, collective intelligence, specialized and technical support, but above all, with technique; it is not a relationship or an alliance just for the sake of it, it is a plan, a project, based on common needs, agendas and problems, with benefit for all parties involved. And so, we have built clear routes and strategies for various organizations in our country and in the continent in diverse areas such as public health, access to medicines, human rights and political activism, ocean protection and environmental conservation.
